Here Is A Thought

Why is it when believers are commanded by Christ to do one thing we somehow find ourselves doing something totally different?  For example, as Christians we are to pray for those who have authority over us in the government from the President to the local County Clerk, but we find it hard to do.  Here is an example of what God says:

Romans 13:1-2  1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.

Even Jesus himself practiced this principle.  Here is what Jesus said while he was standing before Pilate.

John 19:10-11  10 Then Pilate said to Him, "Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?" 11 Jesus answered, "You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above".

So what does the Bible command us to do?  I am glad you asked.

Crosswalk

1 Timothy 2:1-3  1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

So when it comes time for us who are in America to vote, those in the household of faith, we should pray and ask God for his perfect will to be performed in our lives.

Philippians 4: 6-7  6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus
